The idea for Steinhorn Fee, the absinthe from the Steiner Bros., came while walking through the rolling vineyards near the Steiner Bros. Distillery. The brothers discovered the grey-green Artemisia absinthium, better known as wormwood, with its notorious active ingredient thujone.
The wormwood herb was cultivated in our own herb garden and the harvest dried in the attic. Together with the absinthe-typical herbs anise and fennel as well as a number of other botanicals, Steinhorn Fee is created in the 60-liter copper still. Natural hyssop and Pontic wormwood from our own cultivation provide the shimmering emerald green colour.
Tasting Notes: Anise and a hint of wormwood dominate the nose. On the palate, the complexity of the ingredients condenses into an expressionistic variety of tastes. After a while, the bitter note of wormwood joins in. In the herbal-dominated finish, Steinhorn Fee leaves a pleasant warmth. (Steiner Bros.)
