With the Romero & Sons 1973 Single Cask #80, you're not just opening a bottle of rum – you're uncorking a piece of distillation history. This rare single cask bottling comes from Ecuador and is based on a distillate that was produced back in 1973. Decades of aging, limited availability, and an authentic style make this rum a true rarity for connoisseurs and collectors.
This exceptional rum was produced not from classic molasses, but from sugar cane honey. This traditional base provides a unique flavor profile with greater depth, structure, and natural sweetness. Distilled using the pot still method – a traditional approach that preserves strength and character. The casks matured for many years in the Ecuadorian highlands at an altitude of approximately 2,500 meters. The unique climate of this region influences the aging process in a distinctive way, giving the rum its complex balance of intensity and elegance. In 2021, the casks arrived in Europe, where they were bottled in their natural state. At 56.1% ABV, this single-cask bottling is powerful and assertive. On the palate, you'll find notes of mature wood, dark chocolate, caramel, spice, and nutty accents. Despite its strength, the rum remains harmonious and multifaceted with a long, warming finish.
Only about 195 bottles were produced from cask #80. This makes this edition not only exceptional in taste but also highly sought after by collectors. It's best enjoyed neat or with a few drops of water to reveal further nuances.
